Medium: Acrylic and florescent paint on stretched canvas
Size: 100 cms X 150 cms
The Silver Princess flower stands witness to a troubling future: as wild Green Carpenter Bees face the threat of extinction in Victoria, robotic pollinators advance to take their place. Two wild bees in this painting, one almost vanishing beyond the canvas, symbolising their dwindling population, while three robotic bees approach the Princess's flower. Will nature surrender to technology, or can we still save our natural wild pollinators before it is too late?
Green carpenter bees were once common and widespread in south-eastern Australia, from Kangaroo Island to northern New South Wales. They have declined throughout their range and are considered to be extinct in Victoria and mainland South Australia. They still occur in New South Wales around Sydney, and are hanging on at the western end of Kangaroo Island in South Australia.
