My creative process always begins with the landscape—specifically, with a photograph I’ve taken of a place that holds meaning for me. Leaving the Peninsula began this way, inspired by a view I know intimately. That image becomes the foundation for a large-scale linocut, painstakingly carved over weeks or even months. Once the carving is complete, I hand-paint the print, bringing colour and atmosphere to the raw marks.

From there, the linocut becomes the reference for a full-scale painting. The original canvas for this piece now lives on a U.S. Army base, having been shipped overseas to an Australian buyer—an unexpected but meaningful journey for a work rooted so deeply in home.

After the painting is sold, I return to the image once more—this time digitally. I photograph the finished linocut and digitally hand-paint it, carefully layering colour and texture to create a new interpretation. Each stage takes just as long as the last. There are no shortcuts in my work—only patience, persistence, and passion.

That passion is the most vital element of my practice. My art is grounded in personal connection—these are not just landscapes, but places tied to memory, experience, and identity. Without that deep relationship to the land, I simply couldn’t make the work that I do.
