In this image, I combined technical precision with the natural beauty of the Victorian canola fields. Using a star tracker and some knowledge of astronomy, I captured the Greater Magellanic Cloud (GMC)—a celestial feature visible only in the southern hemisphere - as it hung over the canola fields. The GMC is located about 160,000 light-years away from Earth. It’s the closest galaxy to the Milky Way and can be seen with the naked eye, appearing as a hazy cloud. The GMC is rich in star-forming regions, including the famous Tarantula Nebula. It orbits the Milky Way and is interacting with it gravitationally, which may eventually lead to its absorption into our galaxy in several billion years.
For me, night photography is not just about capturing the stars but about revealing the unseen connections between our world and the cosmos. This pursuit of both art and science fuels my inspiration
