ABOUT THE ARTIST
Gwen is a Mornington Peninsula artist specialising in limited edition colour linocuts. She mainly uses the female form, flora & fauna and vintage fabric designs in her highly coloured and patterned prints. Gwen has been a recipient of several printmaking awards and a Print Council of Australia commissioned print artist twice. Her work is held in numerous private and public art collections within Australia and overseas.
The reduction linocut process uses one linoleum block for all the colours by layering the inks from light to dark, one colour at a time. Between each colour, the printing surface on the linoleum block is cut, reducing the surface. This means that an entire edition must be printed in one go - once you have carved into the block for the next layer, you can't go back to print more.
