My name is Ruthie, and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I started silversmithing on a whim in Canberra in 2005, and fell in love. After exploring various facets of this age-old craft for some years, I finally succumbed completely to my desire to create in this medium, and achieved vocational certification at the Brisbane Goldsmith’s School in 2012.
My passion is making interesting, comfortable jewellery for people to enjoy every day. I’m currently inspired by the many and varied gemstones that our beautiful planet provides; by nature, especially the ocean; and by geometry and science.
I like to incorporate functionality along with beauty into my creations. A large portion of my body of work consists of custom made pieces for people who understand the timelessness and quality of unique, handcrafted silver jewellery. All my pieces are made using traditional methods and tools in my own studio at home. I believe in treading lightly on the earth, and I source my silver from an eco-friendly supplier.
My great-great-great grandfather, my great-great uncle and my great-grandfather were blacksmiths, so I like to think that I’m carrying on the family smithing tradition in a small way!
